BRS is lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers to help run the services. Currently we have 60 volunteers helping us with all aspects of our advice and support work e.g. drop-in volunteers, volunteer advisers, admin and women’s group volunteers. The work carried out by volunteers is invaluable for the organisation and we would not be able to provide all the services that we do without their support.
Our volunteers provide approximately 3000 hours per year to BRS. It is impossible to place a true value on the vital contribution of our volunteers, but if we were to assume modestly that their commercial cost would be £10 per hour, then their contribution amount to an equivalent of £30,000 in the last year.
Our volunteers are from different background. Some of them are native people with interest in refugee issues and many are refugees and asylum seekers who find volunteering a helpful way to develop skills and move into employment. We also provide training and support to further develop these skills. This project is a step towards helping refugees and asylum seekers toward a positive integration and independance. We are proud to announce that during past 2 years seven of BRS’s volunteers moved into paid employment.
We are proud to announce that 4 of our volunteers managed to gain paid employment following volunteering for us!!!
