Jasmine Women's Group

Since February 2006 we have been running a women’s group. Many of our female clients are isolated and suffer a host of physical and mental health problems as a result of torture and trauma.
GPs and health visitors have frequently called us to ask us how we can help some of the vulnerable women we see.

This is an opportunity for women to make social contacts improve their self esteem and self confidence through learning new skills and work towards a positive integration. It is also a potential platform to invite speakers to talk about relevant health issues such as child health, sexual health, health screening and other relevant topics.

The group has worked on their photography skills, which included portraits, still life, use of theatre space to take dramatic photos crafts and national costumes photographed from unusual angles.  They also undertook other creative work such as poetry, prose and film-making.  The group also went on outings to museums, art galleries and other places of interest and participated in health & dance workshops.

A Message From Our Patron

Last year I visited the Barnet Refugee Service, and met the trustees, the staff and some of the volunteers and clients.  I was moved and impressed by the real difference BRS has made to so many lives.
